Kehidupan awal
Carr lahir di dekat Moylough, Galway, Irlandia, dan dididik di St Jarlath's College, Tuam, dan di St Patrick's College, Maynooth. Ia ditahbiskan pada 19 Mei 1866.[1] Ia datang ke Melbourne pada 11 Juni 1887.[3]
