The Night of the Hunter adalah film cerita seru Amerika 1955 yang disutradarai oleh Charles Laughton, dan dibintangi oleh Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, dan Lillian Gish. Skenarionya dibuat oleh James Agee berdasarkan pada novel tahun 1953 berjudul sama karya Davis Grubb. Alurnya berkisah tentang seorang pendeta korup yang beralih menjadi pembunuh berantai yang berniat merayu seorang janda dan mencuri $10,000 yang disembunyikan oleh suaminya yang dieksekusi.[1]
The Night of the Hunter tayang perdana pada 26 Juli 1955 di Des Moines, Iowa, dan mendapat ulasan negatif. Film ini menjadi satu-satunya film panjang yang disutradarai oleh Laughton. Seiring berjalannya waktu, film ini telah dievaluasi ulang secara positif dan dianggap sebagai salah satu film terbaik yang pernah dibuat. Film ini dipilih untuk dilestarikan dalam Daftar Film Nasional Amerika Serikat pada tahun 1992.[2][3] Majalah film Prancis Cahiers du Cinéma memilih The Night of the Hunter pada tahun 2008 sebagai film terbaik kedua sepanjang masa, di bawah Citizen Kane.
