Richard Hofstadter (6 Agustus 1916 – 24 Oktober 1970) adalah seorang sejarawan dan intelektual publik Amerika Serikat. Hofstadter menjadi DeWitt Clinton Professor of American History di Columbia University. Menolak pandangan materialis sejarah sebelumnya terhadap sejarah, pada 1950an ia mendekatkan dengan konsep "sejarah konsensus" dan disebut oleh beberapa penasehatnnya sebagai "sejarawan ikonik dari konsensus liberal pasca-perang."[5]
